Thanks Stan Y. and Richard for picking me up at 4:30 am for a hike to Makapuu's Lighthouse to view the sun rise. A great group from Oahu Photography Meet Up Group enjoyed this early morning shoot.

By 8:30 am, we enjoyed breakfast at Zippy's. It was cool to see these Christmas lights around the restaurant.

"Creative Special Effects", 12/11/09

On Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, Eyes of Hawaii had their Christmas party with a photo contest. It was a well organized party - the photo contest allowed us to submit only one picture. The categories were: Lucky You Live Hawaii, Travel, Creative Special Effects. The winners were well deserved. I wish I had their pictures.

This was my entry, I had some problems printing and decided I would just print the original shot.
I should have entered this cropped picture.

As much as I like my Canon 50D, I decided only to bring my Panasonic ZS3 "point and shoot" which has a leica lens and I can do some adjustments. Milton S. and Steve met me at Hilton Hawaiian Village. I am really liking this place.

I did Photoshop the color for the effect.

This turtle remained in this position for a long time almost as if saying - I'm better than you
Who me?
I feel the smallness of the Panasonic camera gives me more flexibility to angle the camera and to allow for more creativity.

Walking to the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center's food court, we took the scenic route - the beach front. It was cool to look up and see this.
The 12x zoom helped with picture.
I'm not sure what tree this is but the fruit looks like a pineapple. If anyone knows please leave me a comment.
At the Sheraton Waikiki - is this the life or what?
Would you believe we spent 6 great hours shooting and just enjoying being a "tourist" Thanks Milton and Steve, that was fun!!!

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3, 12/6/09

My friends Milton S. and Dewey mentioned that this point and shoot camera Panasonic Lumix DMC - ZS3 is really good and that Costco has it on sale Dec 3 -20. I thought really, do I really need another point and shoot? Milton gave me a chance to shoot with his camera. OMG.

This is a portion of a print in a Chinese restaurant.

The following are sites near Kukui Plaza.

I had a hard time getting this shot, the cute ducklings were moving around like little motor boats. I did take some HD video with this camera.
These flowers are small and I did use the camera's macro mode.

Special Olympics, 12/6/09

This the second day of the Holiday Classic.

I enjoyed watching the determination of these basketball players.

Okay I admit I had to take a picture of this player with her special eye glasses.

This bowler actually had more fun playing with his Personal Assistant's (PA) hair.

Isn't this endearing?

It is a joy to help out Special Olympics by taking pictures.

I hope to get more basketball shots tomorrow.

Shun Wah and I sat along the side of the wall to get these shots. Warning no flash as it is distracting to the bowlers.

Yes!!!
