Hamakua Marsh, birds - some in flight, most not, 1/31/21

Thanks Walter for suggesting this outing. As you can tell by the title, I was not very successful with birds in flight. However today was enjoyable - Gary, Curtis, Walter and I were having fun. Derek and Bob had fun further down. I can't wait to see everyone's photos.

Yay, some action.

These 2 were fun to watch. One of them really puffed himself. He eventually got his prey. Later you will see the other one got his prey and we saw how it swallows it whole.

I realized this one was sleeping. It did not take long for the other coots to come and bother him. I could see it being awoken and feeling disorientated.

Awww

These last ones were about the other heron getting his prey. Okay, they swallow their prey.

I was laughing earlier with Curtis that my blog should be called Herons. I definitely need a lot of practice taking photos of birds in flight.

Koko Head Crater, 1/24/21

Derek and I met here around 8 to get better lighting. As you can see in the first 2 photos, plumerias were scarce.

Although there was not a lot to take photos of, it was nice walking around and giving each other a hard time.

Shark's Cove, 1/17/21

Today is Ohana Sunday at Waimea Valley Park - Botanical Garden, which entrance fee is 1/2 off. Since the weather was iffy, I chose to meet at Derek's and follow him incase there were any road blocks along the way, we could change plans. We got there safely but I was not willing to pay the cheap price of $4.00 to go in since the weather was not good for cameras.

We are now at Shark's Cove next to Fire Station 11 Sunset Beach. The waves were definitely fierce. There were surfers waiting on their boards as you can see in this first photo.

Despite the caution sign, these tourists (there were 3) ignored it. The fire station had to make an announcement  to heed the caution tape and come back for his safety the guy on the rocks. When we were leaving, we saw a family with 2 young children also trespass.

I have always wanted to got to 3Kai Clothing Company at 834 Kilani in Wahiawa. Kainalu Kamai, one of my photo friends with Eyes of Hawaii has this store that he and his mother opened. The cute boba drink sticker is his design. The little pouch is perfect for my needs.

I enjoyed today, despite the inclement weather.

I went over to check out the little cactus garden; it is at the corner of Nuuanu and Vineyard.

Heading to the butterflies...

I could see from my the side of my eyes these 2 were frolicking!!!

It was good getting out again, wow the last time was Dec. 22, 2020. Until next time cats or as Derek calls us "tagalong"
