Excursion, 7/3/11

Today, was an excursion.  We stopped at Cuyahoga Valley National Park.  This is Brandyvine Falls.  (Gary N. you will be happy to know these waterfalls shots were done with my Sony NEX.  This is a great little camera.  In the camera, I can see the effects as I change the shutter speed before I take it.  Most DSLR, you need to take the picture, then find out if you got the effect.

This park was large and it was a bit difficult to find the visitor center to get an official stamp for our "Passport - to your National Parks".  We drove around and around. Therefore, I needed to take this picture.
Our next stops were the covered bridges in Ashtabula County, Ohio.  The wooden bridges got covered to prevent its deterioration from inclement weather. There are 17 of these covered bridges. (click on the yellow words to link to the website)

Harpersfield Bridge:

 Mechanicsville Road Bridge:
 Doyle Road:

On our way to get lunch at Geneva by the Lake (Lake Erie), I got a shot of this gray squirrel.

A glimpse of Lake Erie.
Too funny, as drove back, we saw this huge rocking chair.  It certainly reminded us of the 70's show "Laugh In", with Edith Ann.
The eve of 4th of July was celebrated with Ashland Symphony Orchestra.  Liz and I walked around to take in this event, while Richard and Nancy sat and rested after driving all day. Their program included many patriotic songs and audience participation.  During "1812 Overture" paper bags were popped and during "Symphonic Portrait" sparklers were lit. During Stars and Stripes Forever - canons went off.

Nancy, Richard's sister, has a charming home. Everyday, I enjoyed seeing her neighbor's place.
Since her place is away from the town- it was nice and dark at night.  Richard and I tried to take pictures with long exposure to capture the rotation of the earth as seen with the stars.
She has a love with gardening and also with birds. She provides food for the humming birds as well as other birds.  I was happy to get these 3.

On my last night, which was July 4, she had friends over. We even played croquet after dinner.  That was so much fun.

Guess what these shadows spell: OHIO.  (Erma, this should make you laugh)

Richard did this:  I actually won but not by ability, it is a long story.
One of her friends luckily had her car stall just across from her place.  While waiting for help, I could not resist taking pictures of the cows which are also her neighbors  - hee hee separated with a road & a fence

I also enjoyed seeing this moon with the soft glow of the sun.

By this time, it was time to go into town to see the fireworks.   Sorry no stills of the fire works, I used my Sony NEX and took a video of it.  Uggh, my flight leaves tomorrow at 8:00 am  and Cleveland is more than an hour away.  Richard worked hard to find the fastest route.  An inside joke, no I did not leave from AIA.

Where did I go? 5/13-16/11

I had a great weekend, but where did I go?
Some panoramas with my cool Sony NEX

Auntie Lisa invited me to join her for the
Most of the events were at The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii at Mauna Lani Resort.

Leo Sears is the Founder and Executive Director of this event and his wife, Jan is definitely his right hand person.  There were 63 films. "Wounded" won for Short film and "Get A Job" won for Feature film.
Wow, I got to sit on the same table with Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa and Lisa Lu, both of whom were in the 1987 film, "The Last Emperor".

Although my calabash Auntie Lisa is remembered in the 1993 film, "The Joy Luck Club", her acting career is quite extensive.  In Asia, she has received 3 Golden Horse Awards which are similar to the Oscars and 1 Magnolia Award for Best Artistic Achievement.
I also had the pleasure of sitting with Pastor Daniel "Kaniela" Akaka, Jr and his lovely wife Pastor Anna.
During our time on the Big Island, we drove to Hawi and had a nice lunch at

To our surprise their restroom was fun to look around

The following are just some fun shots

(wise saying)
Auntie and I enjoyed taking pictures of The Fairmond Orchid's beautiful landscape.

I stopped to take one last panorama as we approached Hwy 19 as we headed to the Kona Airport.
