Kawaii, 9/27/09

"Kawaii" means cute in Japanese. Although Pandas are typical of China - for me this word, kawaii, is perfect for what you will be seeing.

These pandas are in the Panda Preserve in Beijing, China. I chose these pictures from an email I had received. I feel these are the most kawaii!

Jalna, kudos - I am now new to macro shooting. I was happy with this picture of this wet leaf.
Then I got closer
and closer.
Now I cropped one of my pictures to emphasize the water droplets.

Air Force Thunderbirds, 9/19-20/09

I took this picture to compare the 2 Thunderbirds with the 2 jet planes. As you can see they took off from the Honolulu International Airport to entertain us with an awesome air show over Hickam Air Force Base..

Yes, you do see the Thunderbird on the right is flying upside down.
I was lucky to go on Saturday and Sunday with friends from Eyes of Hawaii. I think the people on that side had a better vantage point. On Sunday, I did take pictures from that side.

Amazing precision!

I wish I could show you more of their maneuvers. It is a show you don't want to miss.

I was impressed with the renovation of the Hawaii Hall. It is full of information with many examples of the Hawaiian customs and history.

I especially like these capes worn by the Kings. I am not sure how they were able to preserve them.

Here is a bird's eye view of the vastness of this hall.

Our famous Duke Kahanumoku's surf board.
The second post tonight is the Okinawan Festival, 9/5-6/09.

Saturday night was festive with a Bon Dance at Kapiolani Park. I enjoyed watching this little one.

Bon dances are fun.

The next day, Shun Wah and I went and was approached by this gentleman. He asked if we could take his picture. Would you believe he will be 93 in October?
So ono!
Perfect hat for a hot day.

Hilton Hawaiian Village, 9/5/09

Thanks Derek for wanting to take pictures of the lilies at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Weather was perfect, Derek, Dewey, Angie, Milton, and myself had a great time.

Did you know they have penguins? Hilton Hawaiian Village created a natural setting for them.
They are so adorable!!!
Here is one diving in; it was a hot day.
This turtle was so cute, doesn't he look like he is smiling?

I had a hard time getting good pictures of the carps, I luckily got this one.
Not only were there black-crown night herons, there were flamingos, ducks, swan and some other kind of bird.
These herons really focus on their prey.
