Makapuu Lighthouse, 12/27/09

Another early morning, Milton S. and Derek picked me up at 4:30 am to go to Makapuu. It was a pretty easy hike but it was good to go early and set up for the sunrise.

While waiting, I enjoyed taking these shots. I kept my ISO at 100 and allowed more exposure time to get more light. I like mornings so these shots were fun to get. The sky was lit with the stars.

North Shore, 12/25/09

Tis Christmas and I woke up to my 4:00 am alarm. Why??? I got picked up at 5:00 am.

Stan Y. and Richard had rented huge lens to shoot the North Shore waves. As luck would have it Stan shoots with a Nikon and Richard shoots with a Canon hence two large lens. My camera is the smaller one; they were nice and rented a 2x converter for my 70 - 200. Therefore all of us had 400 mm lens. Here you see John and Stan. I cropped out Richard since he was sitting and I only got his knees.
These shots were at Waimea Bay.

These shots were at Pupukea.

Even at Turtle Bay the waves were high and furious. We treated ourselves to an expensive lunch. $8.00 hot dogs and $4.00 ice teas. Yikes!
Just wanted to show you the difference with the waves across from Sea Life Park on the south east side of the island.

Because Stan and Richard had rented their lens they wanted to make good use of them. The weather really was cloudy but we tried again at the lookout from Tantalus. I zoomed in and got Stan Sheriff Center which is part of the University of Hawaii and where the basketball and volley ball games are held.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas.

Candy Cane Lane, 12/19/09

Today I woke up at 7:30, went back to sleep and was awoken by a call at 9:00 am. Yesterday I went on 3 photo shoots, it was fun but exhausting. See my last 2 posts. Here I am in Pearl City trying to capture the sunset. Notice the sun, it should be yellow and not white. I am still learning how to shoot.
Erick, Hiromi and I then went to Candy Cane Lane. This neighborhood lights up their street and some pass out candy canes to passerby's.
I had fun doing long exposures and adjusting my lens from 35 mm to 16 mm while the shutter was still open. Look at its effect.

Notice the original snowman is behind this enlarged snowman.
This is the real reason for the season.

I then decided to shoot the homes that participated with the beautiful lighted decorations.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

Zoo, 12/19/2009

On Saturday, 12/19/09, I had a fun filled day of shooting pictures. My previous post was my first activity at Makapuu's Lighthouse. This was my second, I met Milton S., Dewey and Angie as you can tell at the zoo.

I could tell these guys did not enjoy me watching them as the female was stroking this male.

I was amazed how its tail just rests on the surface of the water.
My favorite zoo member, Rusty.

This was the color of the star turtle's enclosure.
I also like the warthog.

The Honolulu Zoo continues to make improvements. Currently they are expanding, you will see wooden panels to the left of the zoo's entrance.
