Sunset, Fireworks, Model, 8/11-12/17

Friday, 8/11/17...

Derek and Milton S. picked me up @4:30 to capture the "Sunset" at 7 pm and the "Fireworks" at 8 pm. We needed to secure a parking space. The first 7 were random sightings until 7.

Yay, it is almost 7

Now to set up for the fireworks. The yellow truck is where the firework will be shot up from. After the truck delivered the fireworks - it did leave. We were allowed to be in this area and then were told to move to where the cones were placed - no one in front of the cones.

Notice the height that the boy kicked his ball up.

I chose to keep my tripod close to the ground to shoot up wards and admittedly it was kind of scary. I also got confused with my settings so I will definitely be coming back to do a better job. The guys felt the same that we have to come again. They were frustrated with the crowd in their way.

Saturday, 8/12/17...
I joined Eyes of Hawaii for a model shoot at Liliuokulani Gardens. She was super nice. Lance Wong gave tips on how we can help the models be comfortable and to shift their stance for interesting lines as well as lighting tips. Thanks "Mahalo" Lance!!!

We had a very good turn out:

I definitely napped after Friday night and Saturday morning.

Zoo, 7/26/17

Next Wednesday, 8/2/17, I will be back at work. Derek was thoughtful and suggested we enjoy a photo outing as he has this week off. We concluded that Summer is not a good time to go to the zoo - the animals are just as exhausted from the heat as we are. My last photo says it all.

This lemur is helping himself to the water.

Mid morning delight.

Yup, this is the last photo, the spider monkeys were inactive. The guy facing the back fence was scratching his side.

A little girl spotted the tiger, which was against the fence hiding and resting in the shads - consequently no photo.

My orangutans were unhappy. I think it was Violet in the large area and Rusty was in another cage. They were side by side in separate cages - it broke my heart. Rusty had his back to us.

Our group split up - hungry ones: Curtis, Dean and I went across the street to Teddy's Bigger Burger; Milton and Derek went to the Aquarium. Milton, Derek and I went to Kim Chee 2 - I enjoyed laughing with them as they enjoyed their delicious lunch.

Lanikai Sunrise and Hoomaluhia, 7/9/17

Here we (Derek, Milton S., Bob, Walter, Dewey and me) are - yes 5:43 a.m. We knew the sun was going to rise from the left of the islands. Yikes, low clouds near the horizon. 

I definitely have to learn how to make photos of the sun without it being blown out.

By 6:45, we were ready for breakfast. Off to Big City Diner at Windward Mall, then to Derek's.

Bob and Walter called it a day.
The rest of us went to Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden.

Highlight: Derek and I were chatting when I saw two young boars zipping by.  I managed to get the smaller one.

After spending 2 hours, we were ready to leave. Luckily although it was very hot it was not humid.
Later it is fun to see each other's photos and to see that we were scattered at Lanikai Beach.
